The physical body plays a crucial role in how we as people interpret and understand facets of our own humanity including identity, gender, and sexuality.
FORMATION is a group exhibition which brings together eight honours graduates from the Australian National University whose work spans the mediums of ceramics, gold and silversmithing, photography, drawing and print making. Each artist uses their distinctive practice to assess and represent the human form, their individual works exploring their unique experiences, perspectives and relationships with the body. The work is as different and yet the same as people are.
This exhibition broadly explores the body’s relationships with light, its own physicality, its absence, the ageing process, and augmentation. The individuality of each form is treasured and acknowledged in these works, culminating in a celebration of human figure and experience.
